Mullineux Schist Syrah 2012
Mullineux Schist Syrah 2012

The 2012 Schist Syrah comes from a parcel of 17-year-old vines growing on shale and schist soils on the Kasteeberg and was cropped on 8 February. A tiny production of this powerful yet very elegant wine in the style of the Northern Rhone with very expressive summer berries with contrasting dried herbs, black pepper & violets and a savoury velvery finish. Lots of structure here with fine silky tannins. Best to decant & will evolve for at least a decade. An outstanding wine. Drink now-2020"  ABV 13.7%

Mullineux Schist Chenin 2013
Mullineux Schist Chenin 2013

"Unsurprisingly (this is a Mullineux wine after all) there’s a fine delicacy to the Schist Chenin Blanc – aromas of orange blossom perhaps (well, at least something floral with a hint of citrus to it). There is, of course, also schist-origin chenin in the Mullineux white blend, supplying some of the nervy finesse of that wine, and that is characteristic of this wine too, along with a supple light richness and amplitude. If I might be allowed a flight of fancy, I’d say it finishes lingeringly with a little nut of ripe citrus (tangerine, perhaps – something more orange than lemon or lime, anyway); a flavour that is somehow wrapped into a shape, a round, perfect shape rolling and settling smoothly in the mouth." Tim James Grape.co.za ABV 13.5%. Only 80 cases made.

Chacayes 2004

This has to be the real star of the Argentinean pack. A new blend of Malbec with a dash of Cabernet Sauvignon, intensely flavoured with liquorice spice and powerful mulberry and plum fruitiness held in check by a wall of dark, bittersweet cocoa and toast. 92 points from both Parker and Wine Enthusiast and four stars in Decanter. Only 500 cases produced. Drink now to 2015. Will blossom with the years. One of the best wines ever-made in Argentina.

Paul Cluver Seven Flags Pinot Noir 2010
Paul Cluver Seven Flags Pinot Noir 2010

“Frankly, the Paul Cluver Seven Flags Pinot Noir is a revelation; there is an ethereal quality I’ve not found in any other South African Pinot. Its luminosity, purity of perfumed fruit & silky texture all encourage a feeling of lightness. But do not be deceived, there is no lack of substance as a period of 5-7 years will reveal.” Angela Lloyd has worked on the Platter Guide for 25 yrs.

More recent vintages also available.

The 2015 vintage received 3 trophies at the International Wine Challange in May 2017 for best Elgin Pinot Noir, best South African Pinot Noir and best South African Red Wine.

Paul Cluver Seven Flags Chardonnay 2015
Paul Cluver Seven Flags Chardonnay 2015

Only the 2nd vintage of this very special chardonnay from the oldest vines on the farm, this wine has all the elegance, purity of fruit and finesse which is typical of all wines produced on this estate. The long established vineyards have reached adulthood and are creating wines with beautiful balance, zesty freshness with lovely citrus and tangerine notes. The palate is broad and mouthfilling with great freshness with a long finish. Very burgundian. ABV 13%

April 2017 edition of Decanter rated this wine as "Outstanding" at 96pts while the 2016 vintage, only just released and already sold out was named as the "Best in Show" Chardonnay at the Decanter World Wine Awards at the London Wine fair in May 2017. We have a small allocation of the 2016 which will be arriving later this year.

De Trafford Syrah 393 2010
De Trafford Syrah 393 2010

This is David Trafford's top Syrah bottling from his Stellenbosch vineyards high on the Helderberg slopes. David is a genius with Syrah and his wines are real classics. This has huge concentrations of delivious dark fruits, loganberry, plums, warm spice with silky tannins.  Long life ahead. Wine Spectator has consistently rated this wine very highly with scores of 92 to 95 points for each vintage of the last ten years while the 2011 (sadly sold out) acheived the highest score ever for a Cape Red wine at 96pts. Only 290 cases.

Savage Syrah 2014
Savage Syrah 2014

This Syrah comes from a very special & tiny wind swept vineyard close to Duncan's house at Cape Point.

"Another first for the Savage range, this is Duncan Savage's maiden release of his 100% pure Savage Syrah 2014 with a 12.5 degree alcohol. Made with Cape Peninsula fruit, this wine bares all the hallmarks and pedigree of a top French Northern Rhone red. The nose is rich, dark and brooding, displaying far more restraint and reticence than some of the other reds in the Savage range. There is a lot going on in the glass but it requires a little coaxing to lure the smoky, cranberry, black plum and savoury salami cured meat notes out. The palate is cool and fresh, elegantly seamless, with crushed granite, pepper corn spice, black olive tapenade, graphite complexity and a real salinity on the finish. The lower alcohol feel adds a tremendous energy and drinkability to the wine as well as a real classical personality. In this instance, less is definitely more. There just aren't enough classy wines like this made in the Cape. Drink from 2016 to 2028+ (93/100 GWS)" Greg Sherwood MW

Buitenverwachting's flagship is a Cape fixture as one of its best classically blended Bordeaux style blends. This vintage consists of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and a dollop of Malbec. Kershaw Clonal Selection Chardonnay 2012
Kershaw Clonal Selection Chardonnay 2012

Tim Atkins says "Master of Wine, RichardKershaw, has produced one of South Africa'a best Chardonnays at only his second attempt, having harnessed Dijon clones to make a refined, deftly naked, pear, citrus and orange peel-like white. This is a brilliant wine that wouldn't look out of place in a line-up of Puligny Premiers Crus. Drink 2014-20." There are many who agree with his analysis of this refined and understated wine with finesse and elegance. 13.5% ABV.
